KABUL.

“President Mahinda Rajapaksa has neither received nor rejected any requests by the United States for Sri Lankan troops to be sent to Afghanistan,” President’s Spokesman told media.

Earlier the Government Information Department has reported that the President rejected a US request to send Lankan troops to Afghanistan.

Nearly two months back, Afghan foreign minister Zalmai Rassoul visited Colombo and held a series of meetings with Sri Lankan officials over matters of mutual interest.

On return, Rassoul said Sri Lanka had hinted at opening its embassy in Kabul in the near future.
