JALALABAD (PAN): A roadside bomb tore through an Afghan military vehicle on Monday, killing one soldier and injuring another in eastern Nangarhar province, where five suspected insurgents were detained, police said.

The Afghan National Army’s vehicle struck the landmine in the Mimla Bagh area of Khugyani district around 8:30am, police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He also said police had arrested three suspected insurgents in Hesarak district and another two in Batikot.

Khugyani district chief Syed Rahman confirmed the blast, but gave no details.

However, resident Nazarullah said one Afghan soldier onboard was killed and three others were injured in the explosion.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said three ANA soldiers were killed and another two sustained critical wounds in the remotely-controlled detonation.
