KABUL): The third turbine of the Naghlu dam, enhancing its power-generating capacity by 25 megawatts, was repaired and inaugurated in the Sarobi district of Kabul on Tuesday, an official said.
Reactivation of the turbine had increased the dam’s power-producing capacity to 75 megawatts, Energy and Water Ministry official, Eng. Mohammad Ibrahim, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said two of the four turbines of the dam had already been repaired and the fourth would be fixed at the beginning of 2014. Reactivation of the fourth turbine will jack up the capacity of Naghlu dam to 100 megawatts.
Funded by the World Bank (WB), a $40 million contract for repairing the turbines was inked with a Russian company in 2007. Russian Ambassador Andre Awee Tessian also attended the inaugural ceremony.
