KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai has described respect for Afghanistan’s unity, central authority and sovereignty serves as the foundation of its relations with foreign countries.
Karzai reiterated his stance during a video teleconference with his US counterpart Barack Obama on Tuesday evening, the Presidential Palace said.
A number of topics of mutual interest, including the ongoing peace process, equipping the Afghan National Army and the Bilateral Security Agreement, were discussed during the video conversation.
Obama phoned Karzai to inform him of his decision regarding the withdrawal of some 34,000 of the American 60,000 troops currently stationed in Afghanistan in the next one year.
Before making his announcement, Obama spoke on the phone with Karzai, British Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Merkel.
