KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): As many as 180 landmines were found and defused during an operation by the Afghan Local Police (ALP) in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Thursday.
The explosives were defused over the past two days in Zangabad, Shadola, Shabozai and Koshkak villages of Panjwai district, the governor’s spokesman, Javed Faisal, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Residents helped security forces in detecting the explosives, he said, adding the four villages were cleared of rebels during a recent public uprising. At least three militants were killed and a fourth wounded, he continued.
Meanwhile, 52 more explosive devices were defused in the Sangsar village of Zherai district, said the gubernatorial spokesman. The landmines had been planted on roads.
