ISLAMABAD (PAN): Pakistani security forces killed eight militants during an operation in the Orakzai tribal region near the Afghanistan border on Friday, an intelligence official said.
Jet fighters were also used during the operation in the Mamozai area of Upper Orakzai, the official told Pajhwok Afghan News on condition of anonymity. Two militant hideouts were destroyed.
In a fresh wave of violence, 21 people, including security personnel and insurgents, were killed and several others injured in suicide attacks on police posts and roadside blasts in northwestern Pakistan on Thursday.
Four paramilitary personnel and two policemen were killed as a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into a security post in the Spin Thall area of the Hangu district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Elsewhere in the troubled province, five suicide bombers and a civilian were killed in an attack on a police station in Bannu district.
Four tribesmen were killed in roadside blasts in the Hassanzai Dara area of Orakzai. Twenty others were wounded as bombs hit two vans carrying passengers from the Akakhel area of Khyber Agency to Peshawar.
The banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack on the police station in Bannu. The group’s spokesman said the attack was in retaliation for the killing of seven fighters in North Waziristan.
