    Driver killed, trucks torched on busy highway

    JALALABAD (PAN): A driver was killed and two trucks were torched during a gunbattle between police and armed rebels in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Friday.

    The clash erupted in Third Farm area of Batikot district on Thursday evening after insurgents stormed a convoy of commercial goods, the district chief, Mirza Mohammad Nasrat, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

    As a result, he said the busy highway remained closed for 90 minutes. The trucks were carrying trade goods from Pakistan into Afghanistan.

    A health clinic official in Batikot, Dr. Abdul Fatah Siddiqui, confirmed receiving a dead body from the clash site. The Taliban are yet to comment on the incident.
