LASHKARGAH (PAN): More than 1200 kilograms of opium and raw hashish were seized in two separate operations in southern Helmand province, the world’s largest opium-producing region, an official said on Sunday.
One thousand kg of raw hashish destined for Pakistan were seized from tractors in the Rego area of Garmser district, provincial police chief, Col. Abdul Nabi Alham, told Pajhwok Afghan News. The driver managed to escape.
Separately, 240 kg of opium was recovered by Khanshin and Deshu police from a car in the Wazirabad area of the province, he said. A car was burnt during a clash between drug traffickers, insurgents and police.
