KABUL in 2013, the agency said on Monday.
With a donation of more than $660,000, the landlocked country in western Europe of about 525,000 people has consistently supported WFP’s activities in Afghanistan.
The latest contribution brings the total amount donated in the past three years to more than $2.9 million, or approximately $5 from each Luxembourger, according to a statement from WFP.
WFP Country Director Louis Imbleau said: “WFP is extremely grateful to the government and people of Luxembourg for their continuous and generous support. The nature of these donations … means that WFP can respond better to the needs of vulnerable Afghans.”
Over the past three years, the statement said, contributions from Luxembourg had been used to provide supplementary nutritional products for pregnant women and young children, high-energy biscuits for students and cash vouchers for vulnerable families.
