KANDAHAR CITY (PAN force on Wednesday captured a rebel commander in the Panjwai district of southern Kandahar province, an official said.
The uprising members also recovered some landmines and weapons from the Taliban leader who was apprehended in the Pashangyan village of Zangabad area, the governor’s spokesman said.
Javed Faisal told Pajhwok Afghan News the commander was travelling toward his hideout in the Dorai area, where the tribesmen captured him.
Three landmines, an AK-47, a remote-control device and a walkie-talkie were recovered from his possession.
Haji Abdul Wadud, who spearheads the uprising, accused the commander of planting roadside bombs and directing attacks against Afghan and foreign forces.
He claimed the detainee had provided them information about landmines planted in the area. After a search, 18 explosive devices were found and defused with the help of a bomb disposal team, Wadud said.
