QALA-I-NAW (PAN) on Saturday handed over to the 207th Corps of the Afghan National Army (ANA) the Ludina base in the northwestern province of Badghis.
A formal ceremony marked the base handover — an important step in the transition process — from the Spanish contingent of ISAF’s Regional Command West to the ANA, a statement from the NATO-led force said.
Deputy Governor Qamaruddin Shakeb and by Gen.l Dawood Shah, commanding the 3rd brigade of the 207th Corps, Brig. Gen. Jose Antonio Alonso Miranda, chief of the Spanish Light Infantry Airborne Brigade Galicia VII (BRILAT), and others attended the event.
“The Afghan flag was raised for the first time in Ludina, while the Spanish ensign, after having been solemnly lowered, will be transferred to the Museum of the Army in Toledo, Spain,” the statement added.
