JALALABAD: (PAN): Two Afghan intelligence agents were killed and three others wounded in a suicide car bombing in eastern Nangarhar province early Sunday morning, a security official said.
The bomber targeted the National Directorate of Security (NDS) office in the Joi Haft area of Jalalabad, the provincial capital, Nangarhar’s deputy police chief told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Masoom Khan Hashmi, citing preliminary reports, the assailant exploded his explosives-laden car in front of the intelligence facility at about 7am. Civil hospital source confirmed receiving the casualties.
An NDS source, meanwhile, verified the casualties and said the heavy explosion rocked the neighbourhood soon after the assailant crashed his vehicle into the building.
As usual, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack that extensively damaged the high-security building. The group’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said a dozen intelligence personnel had been killed.
Giving a witness account, Haji Kabir said he was travelling through the area in a cab when the attack occurred. A nearby mosque was also partially damaged, he added
