KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Construction work was launched on a library and media centre at the journalism faculty of Kandahar University on Wednesday, officials said.
At the launching ceremony, Higher Education Minister Obaidullah Obaid said the library would be constructed at a cost of $3.5 million with financial support from US forces.
The media centre would be built at a cost of id=”mce_marker” million proved by the United States Agency for the International Development (USAID) within one year, he added.
Other facilities worth $3 million would also be added to the university by March of 2014 by the Ministry of Higher Education, he promised. An agriculture university, the first in Kandahar, will be built on 2,500 acres of land in the Tarank Farm area of the provincial capital with India’s financial support.
A modern Islamic university, to be an affiliated with Azhar International University, would also be established in the province, said Governor Toryalai Weesa.
