KABUL‘s football team defeated Sri Lanka 1-0 in its first match of the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup qualifiers in Laos on Saturday.

Divided into five groups, 20 countries are participating in the annual competition, whose winners be qualify for the Asian Football Confederation Cup.

Bilal Arezu scored the solitary goal for Afghanistan in the 44th minute of the first half, lead they retained till the final whistle. The national squad is scheduled to take on Mongolia on March 4 and two days.

The Afghanistan Olympic Committee said the team had elaborately practiced ahead of the event, hoping they would perform well and bring home laurels.
