KABUL-Turkey ties as a symbol of unprecedented mutual trust between the two Islamic nations.

Rassoul’s remarks came on the eve of the 92nd anniversary of the Afghanistan-Turkey Treaty of Friendship, which is celebrated at a time when relations between the two countries have gained considerable strength.

Cooperation between the two countries over the past decade had reached a level seen never before, a statement from the foreign ministry quoted him as saying. “This is a sign of mutual trust and friendship between our nations and governments.”

Cultural, civil and religious bonds had also significantly contributed to the expansion of cooperation between the two governments.

During a 2010 visit to Ankara, President Hamid Karzai and his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul agreed to celebrate the day biennially. Karzai had called Turkey a modern country, representing a successful model for other Muslim states.

The Afghanistan-Turkey Friendship Treaty was signed in 1921.
