MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): The customs office at the Hairatan Dry Port in northern Balkh province was closed after a private firm’s chief traded blows with a senior official on Monday afternoon.

Customs Director Shafiq Osmani was wounded as a result of the clash with the Afsotar transportation company head, a worker of the department revealed to Pajhwok Afghan News.

Requesting not to be named, he said the quarrel was touched off by Afsotar Director Baba Saeed’s misbehavior, which led to the department’s closure.

The customs director confirmed staff’s refusal to work, but denied that he had been beaten. The company was a defaulter of the department, which did not allow the clearance of its vehicles.

But Saeed wanted to have his vehicles cleared illegally, according to Osmani. The closure was also verified by Customs Director-General Hamidullah and Commerce Director Hashim Burna.
