Teachers' salaries worth 5.7m afs looted
CHARIKAR (PAN): Two months salaries -- 5.7 million afghanis ($106,462) -- were wrested while being transferred to education department employees in Sheikh Ali district of central Parwan province, officials said on Monday.
The Sheikh Ali education officer was taking the money in his car from Charikar to the district centre, provincial Education Director Zalmai Shahi said. Robbers looted him in the Tangi Lali area of the district.
He said the muggers also beat the officer and managed to flee the area. The theft has been reported the education ministry in Kabul, said the director, who had no clue to the thieves.
In Kabul, Ministry of Education spokesman Amanullah Iman said they had shared the issue with the Presidential Palace. The salaries of the teachers and other education employees would be given after meeting legal formalities, he concluded.
