KANDAHAR CITY (PAN head Mohammad Daud Gulzar said on Monday he had resigned due to the provincial administration’s meddling in his affairs.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News some provincial officials were creating hurdles to his efforts at reconciliation. As a result, he had been unable to perform his duties efficiently, he said.

Gulzar alleged the governor was not only hampering his activities, he was trying to stuff the peace body with his blue-eyed boys, infamous for their corrupt practices.

“Construction work on more than a dozen development schemes is ongoing. Some of the schemes have been completed, but the governor doesn’t allow us to monitor the projects,” he claimed.

No attention was paid to his complaints by High Peace Council Secretary Masoom Stanikzai, Gulzar said, hence his decision to quit the job.

But Deputy Governor Mohammad Jan Rasulyar said he was unaware of Gulzar’s resignation. They would try to convince him to reverse his decision, Rasulyar added.
