HERAT CITY (PAN): Over 72 tonnes of substandard flour imported from Iran was recovered and buried in western Heart province on Tuesday, an official said.

“The flour was recovered in Isalm Qala and buried in the presence of various government agencies’ representatives, including the attorney,” Customs Director Khaliqullah told Pajhwok Afghan News:

“At least 10 truckloads of flour — 1,444 bags — had been imported by five businessmen,” he said, adding the importers had been referred to the attorney office for breaching custom regulations.

Herat has two big ports in Torghundai, bordering Turkmenistan, and Islam Qala on the border with Iran. Islam Qala serves a huge transit point for Afghanistan, Iran and to other countries in the region.
