MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): The 92nd anniversary of the Afghan – Turkish Alliance Treaty was marked as Friendship Day in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital of northern Balkh, on Tuesday
High-ranking officials from Kabul and northern provinces participated in a function, marking the celebration, jointly arranged by the governor’s office and the Turkish Consulate.
A lively Sufi group dance — named Sama — was performed by 16 youth. Turkish Consul General Gunes Yesildag said the Afghan and Turks had a shared history and culture.
The signing of the Treaty has been commemorated since 2010, he said. Sufi poet and jurist Maulana Jalaluddin Balkhi had played a crucial role fostering the friendship, he acknowledged.
Governor Atta Mohammad Noor voiced his pleasure over the deep links between the two brotherly Muslim nations and thanked Turkey for its assistance over the years for the reconstruction.
