GARDEZ (PAN): The governor of southeastern Paktia province on Tuesday instructed Afghan security personnel not to seek air support from foreign troops during nighttime raids.

At a meeting with the security officials, Juma Khan Hamdard said most night raid were conducted against ordinary suspects. Afghan forces had the capacity to arrest the suspects in daytime, he argued.

At times, the governor added, night operations were conducted on the basis of wrong information due to disputes among the people.

Provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Zalmai Oryakhel, said they had sized remote-control bombs and weapons in Tabiban and Pakikhel areas of Zurmat district.

At the meeting, Hamdard evaluated the role of local police for the security of the province and decided to appoint more local policemen to districts.
