Karzai urges no buildings on cultivable lands
In a radio address to the nation aired last night, Karzai said establishing orchards, lawns and green areas was an important aspect they had to do for better environment. "Trees play an important role in the beatification of a country," Karzai said, stressing the need for making tree plantation efforts a success because most of orchards and forests in Afghanistan had been lost to decades of war.
The president also urged no more construction of buildings on cultivable lands and by destroying trees.
The Kabul Municipality on Thursday launched a tree plantation drive, saying 400,000 different kind of saplings would be planted as part of reaching this year's target of growing one million saplings.
