HERAT CITY (PAN): A district chief died when the car he was travelling in flipped on a highway between the western city of Herat and Kohistan district, an official said on Friday.

Deputy police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Hameed Hameedi told Pajhwok Afghan News Farhan Mubariz was returning home from Herat City when his car flipped over and ejected him on Thursday evening.

Mubariz was among another three men who sustained injuries in the mishap, but one of his guards was killed instantly, the police official said, adding the Kohistan district chief later succumbed to his serious wounds at hospital.

A Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi claimed Mubariz’s vehicle flipped over after the fighters attacked it. The district chief was among two people killed and as many others were wounded in the assault, he said.
