GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Journalists representing 35 media outlets on Monday formed an association they named “Media Centre” and elected the representative body’s office bearers in southern Ghazni province.
BBC reporter Asadullah Jalalzai was elected as the association chairman, Bost-i-Bastan reporter Mohammad Hussain Rahimi as deputy chairman, Jamhoor News Agency reporter Sayed Wahdat Abdali as secretary and Bakhtar News Agency manager Mohammad Talash as finance officer.
Speaking on the occasion, Ghazni Information and Culture Director Bismillah Sharifi said journalists and writers played a key role highlighting the issues facing residents of the province at a time when Ghazni city was preparing to host the 2013 year as the Asian capital of Islamic civilization.
He pledged his department’s full support to the newly formed association, hoping it would promote local culture and values.
Journalists at the well-attended ceremony were of the view that the absence of a proper forum for them had for long been felt by the fraternity.
The association, they said, was a key step towards providing a solid platform to boost journalism in Ghazni, hoping the new body would help streamline their matters.
