ASADABAD (PAN opened in Asadabad, the capital of eastern Kunar province, on Monday.

Besides Kunar, women from neighbouring Nangarhar, central Kabul and Parwan provinces have put on display their products at the show arranged at the governor’s office, said Nooria Munsif, the director of Women and Children Capacity Development, a non-governmental organisaiton.

She said the exhibition was aimed at offering skilled women an opportunity to boost their livelihood and find access to local and international markets.

Kunar Women’s Affairs Director Nasima Shafiq Sadat said it was for the first time that such an event was taking place in the province. She asked women to fully participate in the show.

Governor Syed Fazlullah Wahidi said his administration had launched work on an industrial park spread over two acres of land in order to enable women to find a proper market for their handicrafts.

He hoped the double-storey building would help women sell their products. He announced 100,000 afghanis (about $2,000) on monthly basis to be used for the development of women in Kunar.
