HERAT CITY (PAN): Flash floods triggered by heavy rains destroyed several homes and swept away livestock and household items in the capital of southwestern Badghis province, an official said on Saturday.
The floodwaters played havoc in the first and second police districts of Qala-i-Naw, inflicting losses on dwellers, the governor’s spokesman, Sharfuddin Majidi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said a joint team of the public health and the natural disaster management authority had been dispatched to the affected areas to assess the losses.
Majidi said the provincial government lacked resources to provide the affected families with emergency assistance.
Abdullah, who lives in the first police district, said the authorities had issued residents a prior warning to adopt precautionary measures. He added his home was among several others damaged by the flooding after they failed to act on the warning.
