Public Health Director Dr Assadullah Fazli told Pajhwok Afghan News the new round was aimed at acheiving the left-over target in central parts of the province and districts along the Pakistan border including Sarkano, Marawara, Shegal, Watapur and Chapadara.
He said voluleteers had been unable to reach out to the 21,000 children in the previous rounds due to security fears. However, the director said half of the lefovers (about 10,000) were administered polio drops during a drive last week in cooperation with local residents, tribal elders and religious scholars.
He said a total of 12,300 children remained deprived of the vaccine due to Taliban‘s oposition to the effort.
Fazli said his department would try to acheive the target of vaccinating 137,000 children across Kunar, where four postive cases surfaced in 2012.
