KUNDUZ CITY (PAN): As victims of a Wednesday's suicide attack were laid to rest in northern Kunduz province, police on Thursday said eight suspects had been detained in connection with the blast that also killed family members of the Wolesi Jirga speaker.
Kunduz Police Chief. Brig. Gen Abdul Andrabi told participants of the burial ceremony in the Imam Sahib district said that the bomber's identity had not been determined as yet, but police investigation continued.
The suicide bomber targeted a crowd after a match of buzkashi, killing the district police chief, Abdul Qayoum Ibrahimi, his son, his father and seven other people.
Qayoum was the brother of the speaker of the Parliament, Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, and of Abdul Latif Ibrahimi, a presidential adviser. They were not present, but their father was also among the dead.
Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi said the government's policy of reconciliation with the Taliban needed to be changed.
