Prisons being transferred to Afghan control: US
WASHINGTON (PAN): The White House said on Friday that the Obama administration was working closely with the Karzai government on completing the transfer of all detention facilities currently controlled by the US in Afghanistan.
“We certainly are working closely with President Karzai to complete the transfer of those detention facilities,” White House Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest said.
Responding to questions on Karzai's statements, Earnest said the US military leadership had been working on the issue with the Afghan leader over the past several months.
“But in terms of where we stand in that process, I don't have anything new to offer from here other than to say that, as we have for several months now, that this is something that we're working closely with President Karzai to complete, which is the transfer of this (Bagram jail) detention facility,” Earnest said.
