KABUL Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) on Sunday said the number of stranded trucks had doubled and prices of food items and construction material had soared in main cities.

Last week, ACCI decided against supplying goods to major cities till the municipalities there stopped taxing trucks at entry points.

ACCI deputy head Khan Jan Alokozai told Pajhwok Afghan News the number of stranded trucks loaded with food and construction material, had increased from 3,000 to 6,000 at the gates of Kabul, Kandahar, Herat and Jalalabad.

“If the government does positively respond to our demand, we will continue our protest. The government is responsible for the hike in prices of daily-use items and construction material,” he added.

Enforcement of municipality tax was one of the factors behind corruption and none of traders was ready to pay the levy except the customs duty, he said.
