ISLAMABAD (PAN’s northwestern city of Peshawar on Monday, officials said.

One suicide bomber threw a grenade into a courtroom before blowing himself up, while another was shot dead by security forces, a senior police officer told reporters at the scene.

Additional Inspector General of Police Masood Afridi said the second attacker’s suicide jacket was defused by the bomb disposal squad.

Additional Sessions Judge Kulsoom Azam was injured along with others as a result of gunfire, followed by the suicide bombing. Afridi said four policemen and a number of lawyers were among the wounded, who were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said the terrorist attack was aimed at disrupting upcoming parliamentary elections.

Hussain said the assault was planned well, despite tight security measures put in place on Khyber road. “In the next 20 days leading up to elections, more attacks could happen,” he warned.
