350 rebels eliminated in west in a year
Gen. Ranieri Dario of ISAF, Afghan National Army's 207th Zafar Military Corps Commander Maj. Gen. Taj Mohammad Jamid and other military officials held a meeting to discuss security in western provinces.
Gen. Dario said all operations had been carried out in close coordination with Afghan security personnel in Badghis, Herat, Farah and Ghor provinces.
He said security responsibility for 24 districts in the western zone had transitioned to local forces, with international troops increasingly assuming training responsibility.
He said 350 rebels were killed, 200 wounded and 160 captured during the year that saw 369 suspects militants arrested.
Another 200 fighters had joined the government-initiated peace process, the ISAF commander said, adding 204 weapons were seized and 922 roadside bombs defused during the period.
