KABUL (PAN): Three Afghan nationals have been killed in a hostage-taking attempt in southern Tajikistan, a media report said on Friday.
The incident happened in the Dehi Kozi village of Shuroobod district near the Tajik-Afghan border on Thursday when three armed Afghans took the Tajik citizens hostage.
Radio Free Europe quoted local sources as saying the Afghans tried to take the four people to Afghanistan. The three captors and a hostage were killed in the clash.
An official of Tajikistan’s State Committee for National Security verified the incident but gave no details. Residents of the area allege armed Afghans regularly enter Tajik territory to kidnap local citizens for ransom.
