FAIZABAD (PAN have seized 10 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers in the wake of a clash in the Warduj district of northeastern Badakhshan province, officials said on Monday.
Efforts were being made to recover the soldiers who were kidnapped three days ago in Awasa, Shahidabad and Barabari areas, the governor’s spokesman, Abdul Maroof Rasikh, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Tribal elders were in negotiations with the Taliban for the release the captives, he said.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed the fighters had killed a dozen ANA commandos in Khesraw area, where they were establishing a checkpoint.
But Dawlat Mohammad Khawar, the district chief, rejected Mujahid’s claim as groundless, saying no clash had taken place in the area over the past 24 hours.
