KABUL and the Afghan-Turk Organization, a senior official said on Tuesday.

The foreigners were enrolled to faculties of political sciences, Islamic studies and literature, Higher Education Minister Obaidullah Obaid said.

The enrolment meant education in Afghanistan had improved, he said, hoping it would help bring back the university’s past glory.

Fatima, a Turkish student, thanked the higher education ministry for giving her an opportunity to study in Afghanistan.

Still recovering from the long period of war, Kabul University is attended by 7,000 students, of which 1,700 are women.

Up to 1200 Afghan students have been sent to Turkey for higher studies on scholarships, according to the higher education ministry.
