Pilot killed in US F-16 crash

Pilot killed in US F-16 crash

Apr 04, 2013 - 22:59

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): A coalition pilot died after his plane crashed in eastern Afghanistaninfo-icon, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAFinfo-icon) said on Thursday.

The site had been located and the pilot’s body recovered, the alliance said, adding the cause of the crash was under investigation

Initial reporting indicated there was no insurgent activity in the area at the time of the crash, a statement from the multinational force said.

Although ISAF did not reveal the pilot’s nationality, a media report said a US fighter pilot was killed when his F-16 jet crashed late on Wednesday near Bagram Air Base.

Air Force Central Command spokesperson Capt. Natassia Cherne said the plane crashed 10 miles south of the runway. "Obviously, the worst part of the situation is that we lost an airman."
