KABUL had been suspended, as relations between the neighbours hit a new low.

Afghanistan remained willing for closer, friendly and wide-ranging relations with Pakistan, based on bilateral respect, sovereignty and a commonality of interests, the ministry’s spokesman said.

Janan Musazai added Afghanistan had always insisted on peace and security on its soil, something that was equally important for peace in Pakistan and the region at large.

Without going into details, the spokesman said in a statement they had suspended working on the strategic agreement with Pakistan.

Kabul would sign a cooperation agreement with any country in line with people’s wishes, approval of the parliament and its national interest, he concluded.

Last week, Afghanistan cancelled a visit of military officials to southwestern Balochistan province for joint military drills with Pakistan
