LASHKARGAH (PAN): Five civilians were killed and as many others wounded in a roadside bombing in the Marja district of the southern province of Helmand on Tuesday, an official said.

The incident took place at around 1pm in the Shor Shorak area, a resident of Nawa district, Abdul Jabbar Agha, who lost his son in the blast, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The men were travelling in three cars to Khanshin district for harvesting poppy crop, said another resident of the district, Sardar Wali.

Four youth were killed on the spot and six wounded in the explosion, but one of the injured later died at hospital, he added.

At least two of the wounded people were in critical condition, a doctor at the Emergency Hospital in Lashkargah said on condition of anonymity.

However, the governor’s spokesman, Omar Zwak, said three civilians were killed and as many wounded. He accused the militants of planting the roadside bomb.

No one has so far claimed responsibility for the detonation.
