JALALABAD (PAN): A newly-constructed bridge was inaugurated on Friday over the Alishang River in the eastern province of Laghman, officials said.
The 97-metre-long and 15-metre-wide bridge took five months and cost 40 million afghanis provided by the US Provincial Reconstruction), the governor’s spokesman said.
Sarhadi Zhwak told Pajhwok Afghan News the bridge in Gonapal area would help resolve transportation problems earlier faced by thousands of families living on both sides of the river.
His administration plans to construct a water dam in Watan Gato area of the same district, Governor Dr. Fazlullah Mujaddadi said.
Resident Hajji Shah Wali said people of the area intended to keep the bridge secure from being damaged by anti-government elements.
