MAIMANA (PAN): Flash floods continued to play havoc in northern Faryab province, killing at least seven people, destroying hundreds of homes and sweeping away household animals and crops, officials said on Saturday.

Heavy rains led to flooding in Garzewan, Balcheragh and Pashtonkot districts, inundating vast swathes of agriculture fields and leaving seven people dead, Governor Mohammadullah Batash told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the dead included a child who was killed in Pashtonkot district, while two men were killed in Garzewan district.

Many residents suffered financial losses as their hundreds of livestock, homes and arable lands were washed-away by the floods, he said, adding food and forage supplies had been made to some affected families.

Abdul Qadir Qadiri, the Pashtonkot district chief, said more than 70 residential houses were destroyed and 60 livestock perished in the disaster.

He said a road connecting the district with the provincial capital and Balcheragh district had been washed away, leaving residents disconnected from Maimana.
