Senior MoF officials in master's degree programme
A joint statement of MoF and United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) said the year-long programme had been designed by MoF with its own internal funds in technical cooperation with UNITAR.
It would support building the capacity of 20 senior MoF officials to the master’s level, the statement said, adding UNITAR jointly coordinated with Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies of Geneva to implement the executive master’s degree programme in Development of Policies and Practices (DPP).
Being enhanced with additional e-learning courses provided by UNITAR in areas of interest for the MoF, the statement said the programme for the period of 12 consecutive months would end in the conferral of a master’s degree to successful candidates on completing 30 academic credits and fulfilling all requirements.
In his opening remarks, Finance Minister Dr. Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal said he was delighted to see the master’s degree program for core MoF officials had officially been launched. He looked forward to a long-term strategic relationship with UNITAR and the graduate institute of Geneva.
UNITAR Local Development Program manager Alex Mejia: “I am very delighted and honoured to be counterpart with the ministry of finance and part of the capacity development programme."
The degree programme was initiated under a memorandum of understanding signed between MoF and UNITAR in Geneva, Switzerland on January 30.
The joint statement said all candidates had been selected purely on merit after an internal examination that was followed by external telephonic interviews with each candidate by professors of the Graduate Institute of Geneva.
