JALALABAD (PAN): Twenty-one militants were killed by joint Afghan and US-led coalition forces during a pre-dawn operation, still ongoing, in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Monday.
Another four insurgents were wounded and 10 more were detained during the offensive that began at 3am targeting militant hideouts in Chardahi, Ambarkhana and Takya villages of Batikot district, the governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Ahmad Zia Abdulzai the combined forces had seized 15 machineguns and 40 Kalashnikovs from insurgents.
Separately, a Taliban commander was among three insurgents detained in Kandai area of Sherzad district, according to Abdulzai, who added two Kalashnikovs and some ammunition were recovered during the operation.
