HERAT CITY (PAN): Seven civilians were killed and three others sustained injuries on Wednesday when a roadside bomb tore through a truck carrying a Kuchi family to the Shindad district of western Herat province, officials said.
The incident occurred around 8am when the truck hit a roadside bomb on its way to the district centre, the town’s administrative head, Abdul Hameed, said.
Resident Gul Noor said the dead included two children and a woman. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital, he said.
Provincial council member Noor Mohammad Zarifi, however, said five boys and two girls were killed in the explosion.
The blast comes a day after the Wolesi Jirga‘s affairs said 80 civilians were killed in the conflict over the past three months, indicating a surge in civilian casualties.
