Jail officer killed in Nangarhar

JALALABAD (PAN): An off-duty jail officer was shot dead by gunmen in Haska Mena district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Saturday.

Deputy education branch head at the Nangarhar central jail, Gul Hassan, was killed on Friday night by unknown assailants in the district, where he had gone to attend a wedding party, police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News.

No one has so far been arrested in connection with the murder, but an investigation was underway, he said. The Taliban have immediately claimed responsibility for killing Hassan.
