Herat journalists protest attack on colleague
HERAT CITY (PAN): Journalists staged a protest against a life attempt on their colleague in western Herat province on Tuesday.
Ali Asghar Yaqubi, a local media worker who is also an information department employee, was seriously wounded in an attack by two motorcyclists last evening.
Khalil Ahmad Amiri, the head of a journalists’ support organisation in Herat, stressed enhanced security for reporters.
It was the fourth attack on journalists in a year, but none of the perpetrators had been detained so far, he complained.
Attiqullah Motmain, a reporter with the Zhwandoon TV channel, said journalists could not work with a sense of protection in the province.
At the end of the protest, Deputy Governor Asluddin Jame assured the journalists the attackers would be traced and brought to justice.
