JALALABAD (PAN): At least 16 people were killed and more than a hundred wounded as a moderate earthquake jolted a number of Afghan cities, including the capital Kabul, on Wednesday afternoon.
The casualties occurred in Nangarhar and Kunar provinces as a result of the 5.7 magnitude quake that was 40 miles deep, with its epicentre located in the Mehtarlam mountain range 16 miles northwest of Jalalabad.
The tremor was also felt as far away as northern Pakistan, Kashmir and the Indian capital of New Delhi. The quake that happened at 1.55pm was centered in southeastern Afghanistan at a depth of 70 kilometres.
