An interior ministry official told a meeting in Islamabad the restriction on Afghan refugees’ movement would be imposed a day before the polls and would continue for three days, Dawn reported on Friday.
Chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim, Thursday’s meeting was attended by the defence secretary, additional interior secretary, provincial chief secretaries and home secretaries and police chiefs.
Additional Chief Secretary of FATA Dr Tashfeen said if elections in the tribal region near the Afghanistan border were possible, there should be no problem in other parts of the country.
According to official estimates, about 1.6 million registered Afghan refugees and a million other Afghans are currently living in Pakistan.
