PUL-I-KHUMRI (PANinfo-icon): Seasonal floods have killed a child and damaged 50 houses and 500 acres of cropped land in northern Baghlan province, an official said on Saturday.

The floods were induced by 24 hours of rain in Jalgah, Khost, Nahrain and Talah Wa Barfak districts as well as Pul-i-Khumri, the provincial, Disaster Management Director Nasir Ahmad Kohzad told Pajhwok Afghan News.

A boy was killed and his mother wounded when their house collapsed in Jalgah district, the official said, adding that 40 homes and 225 acres of crops were destroyed across the province by the flooding.

Two roads and a fuel tank were damaged in Shamraq and Boghawi areas, according to Kohzad, who said the scale of the damages was yet to be determined.

Haji Sangi, a dweller of the Sangaki village in Talah Wa Barfak, said that 25 houses were damaged by the overnight floods that forced and 80 families to flee their homes.

The affected households, including his family, had taken shelter in the mountains, Sangi said, seeking food and tents for the victims.
