JALALABAD (PAN): Four civilians were killed when foreign troops resorted to indiscriminate fire after coming under a bomb-gun attack in the Chaparhar district of eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday, an official said.

The NATO) soldiers came under attack in Mano and Guldara areas, said the town’s administrative head, Mohammad Siddique.

Four civilians, including two children, were killed and a fifth person sustained injuries when the troops resorted to fire in all directions, he told Pajhwok Afghan News.

In response to an emailed query from this news agency, the NATO-led force media office in Kabul said: “We are aware of the reports of civilian casualties in Nangarhar today. ISAF takes all allegations of civilian casualties very seriously and is currently working to determine the facts…”

Nangarhar police spokesman Col. Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal confirmed the incident, but had no further details.

Resident Aminullah said the foreign troops reacted in a knee-jerk manner after coming under attack and opened fire at civilians. He added the dead included two children, a boy and an adult.

Meanwhile, the Taliban said they had conducted two bomb attacks on international soldiers in the district, killing two of them.
