KABUL): Islamabad on Thursday lodged a protest with Kabul against what it called unprovoked cross-border fire on a paramilitary post in the Mohmand tribal region.
The Afghan charge d’affaires was summoned to the Foreign Office today in Islamabad over the overnight incident that left two Frontier Constabulary (FC) soldiers wounded.
Despite heavy fire targeting the Gursal post, Pakistan said its security forces exercised maximum restraint and communicated first to the Afghan side the “serious violation” through military channels.
A statement from the Pakistan embassy in Kabul said the charge d’affaires was conveyed serious concern over the violation. “This is not the first time that heavy fire has been initiated from the Afghan side causing damage to Pakistani structures.”
The diplomat was asked to convey Pakistan’s concern to the authorities in Afghanistan to share information with the Pakistan military in line with agreed procedure and avoid repeated violations.
“Pakistan believes that such incidents are vitiating the friendly relations and creating avoidable tension between the two brotherly countries,” the statement added.
